Wake Up turns 7 years of age on Friday!
I’m not usually one to make a big deal out of birthdays, but this year I’m asking YOU for a birthday present. Before I tell you about the present, let me tell you about a man who Claire and I deeply admire.
Scott Neeson had it all. He was the President of 20th Century Fox International, had celebrity friends, a big house, fancy cars and a boat. He managed $1.5 billion in revenues, overseeing blockbuster films such as Braveheart, Titanic, Star Wars and X-Men.
But for Scott, something was missing. “I thought there was something wrong with me, because the more I got, the less happy I became.”
Scott’s life was forever changed on a visit to Cambodia where he saw hundreds of the poorest children scavenging through a garbage dump. These children lived in the dump and collected scraps to sell for food. In the very moment of seeing this suffering, he realised it was time to give up his Hollywood life.
He went back to Los Angeles, resigned from his job, sold all of his possessions and moved to Cambodia to give his life to something much bigger.
In 2004, Scott set up the Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF). Today he lives very modestly while providing education to more than 2,400 children and helping thousands of families. CCF has nearly a perfect score for accountability and transparency, with only 10% of funds going into administration.
It would mean the world to me, and be the perfect 7th birthday present if you would help Scott’s amazing work.
Scott’s example reminds me of what’s possible when courage, kindness and compassion are acted upon. If you’re interested, click here to watch an Australian Story episode on Scott’s life.
With your ongoing support, I hope the 7 year old Wake Up will continue to mature and grow into a force for good.
With love and appreciation,
P.S. We only have 8 “Super Saver” tickets left for Dr. Dan Siegel’s Sydney Master Class on 7th June, 2016. This will be a special day, and I really hope you can join us!
